RRB Section Controller Selection Process 2025 Steps

The Ministry of Railways follows a structured recruitment plan to select the best candidates for the Section Controller post under Pay Level-6 of the 7th CPC. The process includes a screening Computer Based Test, an aptitude-based CBAT, and final Document Verification with Medical Examination. Each phase is crucial and candidates must qualify in all stages to receive the appointment.

Computer Based Test (CBT)

The first stage of the RRB Section Controller Selection Process is the Computer Based Test. This is a screening test of 100 objective-type questions to be completed in 120 minutes. Questions are drawn from Analytical & Mathematical Capability, Logical Capability, and Mental Reasoning.

Marking Scheme: Each question carries 1 mark with a negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer.
Normalization: Scores will be normalized if the CBT is held in multiple shifts.
Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS need 40%, OBC (NCL) 30%, SC 30%, and ST 25%. PwBD candidates get a 2% relaxation if vacancies are unfilled.

- Analytical & Mathematical Capability – 60 questions

Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

Candidates equal to eight times the number of vacancies from each category will be shortlisted for CBAT based on their normalized CBT scores.

Medium: English and Hindi only.
Qualifying Criteria: A minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery is mandatory for all candidates, irrespective of category. No relaxation is allowed.
Weightage: Final merit will consider 70% weightage of CBT marks and 30% weightage of CBAT marks.
No Negative Marking: CBAT will not have negative marking.
Candidates must also present the prescribed Vision Certificate during CBAT; failing this will lead to disqualification from this stage.

Document Verification (DV)

Based on combined performance in CBT and CBAT, candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for Document Verification.

Merit List: Prepared using 70% CBT and 30% CBAT scores.

Tie-Breaking: If two or more candidates secure the same marks, the older candidate will be placed higher in merit. If age is the same, the alphabetical order of the name (A–Z) is used.
During DV, original educational certificates, community/category certificates, identity proofs, and other relevant documents must be produced. Appointment is strictly subject to successful document verification and medical fitness.

Medical Examination

After successful DV, candidates must undergo a Medical Examination under A-2 medical standard to ensure visual and physical fitness as required for the Section Controller post. Only candidates declared medically fit by Railway Administration will be finally appointed.

RRB Section Controller Provisional Selection

The final selection list will be released by the respective RRBs based on the combined merit of CBT and CBAT and subject to DV and medical fitness. Appointment letters are issued by the respective Railway Zones only after completion of all these stages.

RRB Section Controller Document Verification Process

Candidates need to present valid documents during DV to verify their identity, age, educational qualification, and community status. The following are commonly required:

Identity Proof: Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID, Driving License.
Educational Certificates: 10th, 12th, and Graduation marksheets and certificates.
Community/Category Certificate: SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/EWS certificates if applicable.
