UPSC CGSE 2027 Notification Out for 127 Posts, Apply Online
UPSC CGSE 2027: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 for recruitment to various Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist, Hydrogeologist and other scientific posts under the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Central Ground Water Board (CGWB). A total of 127 tentative vacancies have been announced under the examination.
Eligible candidates with the required postgraduate qualifications in relevant subjects can submit their applications online from 02 September 2026 to 22 September 2026 up to 6:00 PM. The UPSC CGSE Preliminary Examination is scheduled to be conducted on 10 January 2027, followed by the Main Examination on 19 and 20 June 2027.

UPSC CGSE 2027 Eligibility
Candidates applying for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination must satisfy the prescribed nationality, educational qualification and age requirements.
Educational Qualification

The qualifying degree must be obtained from a recognized university or institution as specified in the official examination rules.
Candidates whose qualifying examination results are awaited may also apply subject to fulfilling the conditions prescribed by UPSC and producing the required proof within the stipulated stage.
UPSC CGSE 2027 Age Limit
Candidates must have attained the minimum age of 21 years and must not have attained 32 years as on 01 January 2027.
Therefore, candidates should have been born between 02 January 1995 and 01 January 2006, both dates inclusive.
Age relaxation is available to eligible candidates belonging to reserved and other specified categories according to the applicable government rules.

UPSC CGSE 2027 Examination Pattern
The recruitment examination is conducted in three stages:
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
- Personality Test/Interview
Stage 1 – Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination is an objective-type examination consisting of two papers for the respective stream.
The Preliminary stage carries a total of 400 marks.
For the Geology/Hydrogeology stream, for example, the examination consists of:

Stage 3 – Personality Test
Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination are called for the Personality Test/Interview.
The Personality Test carries 200 marks.
Final selection is made on the basis of performance in the Main Examination and Personality Test, along with applicable merit, category and candidate preference conditions.

The selection process for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 consists of:

The Preliminary Examination is primarily used to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination. Candidates qualifying in the Main stage are then considered for the Personality Test.
